A Celebration of Achievement
Each year, student organizations and individuals are given the opportunity to apply for Ragin' Recognition awards. Organizations and individual student leaders may be recognized in the areas of service to campus, collaboration with the community, leadership, marketing efforts, recruitment, and programming. Individual students can apply for class awards (freshman through graduate student), as well as the President's Leadership Award, and Advisor of the Year. Student Organizations and Individuals apply for each award and are then selected by a committee of University Officials. Awards are presented and celebrated near the end of each spring semester.
We have added a new award this year: The 1898 Society. This award, much like a "Hall of Fame"-type award, acknowledges the contributions made by students who play a significant role in improving and developing the intellectual, social, cultural, and/or athletic fabric of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette community. Awardees exemplify academic performance, extra-curricular achievement, service to the University, and school spirit. Students may apply and be awarded this commendation during their senior year (2021 graduation date). Each year, the selection committee will decide how many seniors will be honored with this distinction.
Applications are now being accepted for the 2020-2021 Ragin' Recognition Awards.
Student organizations and individual students may apply for a variety of awards that recognize the contributions they have made this past year. Registered student organizations can apply for awards that recognize outstanding marketing, member development, philanthropy and service, and much more. Individual students can apply for class awards (freshmen through graduate student), as well as the President's Leadership Award. Seniors may apply for our new honor, The 1898 Society.
Use the link below to access the award applications. All applications must be received by 5:00 p.m. on April 6, 2021. The Ragin' Recognition program will be held on Thursday, April 22, 2021, at 6:00 p.m., in the Student Union Atchafaylaya Ballrooms.

Sustainability Leadership Awards
The Sustainability Leadership Award recognizes a University student organization who demonstrated a commitment to advancing sustainability in their organization, on campus, and in our community through their practices, service, and engagement. Please describe the organization’s efforts to lead discussions and initiatives that will increase awareness, foster positive lifestyle changes, and inspire active involvement from the entire University community to create a more sustainable and resilient campus and community. Portions of this essay may be read during the Ragin' Recognition awards ceremony.

The Century Oak Award
On January 1, 1901, Dr. Edwin Stephens, the University’s first president, planted live oak seedlings near the campus entrance at the intersection of University Avenue and Johnston Street. Now known as the Century Oaks, these stately oaks symbolize the University's commitment to sustainability and the wisdom of a young leader who planted trees for future generations.
The Century Oak Award recognizes a student for their leadership in developing or implementing thoughtful, effective solutions to the environmental, social, and economic challenges we face in local, national, and global scales. Portions of this application may be read during the Ragin' Recognition awards ceremony.
