Enjoy funnel cakes and snowballs with Café Chi Alpha’s Block Party! This event will be held at Student Union Plaza.

Sunday, August 21, 2022

New Student Convocation        Cajundome       5:00 pm

Make plans to attend New Student Convocation at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 21, to show your support for our newest students! Lineup for the procession
begins at 4:15 p.m. at the Mardi Gras Ballroom in the Cajundome.

Cajun Craze Kick-Off     Cajun Field        after NSC until 10:00 pm

Kick off Cajun Craze with this festival for all new students. The event will take place directly following New Student Convocation and will be at Cajun Field. The official Class of 2026 photo, free food, give-aways, games, and more for new students to enjoy!

Doughnut Drop In  Rex Street    8:00 am-12:00 pm

Look for members of the Student Government Association and University administrators at Rex Street and St. Mary, handing out free doughnuts and breakfast items to celebrate the first day of the semester.

First Day Flicks  Union Porch and the Quad  10:00 am-2:00 pm

Come get that “1st Day of College” photo at our customized photo stations! Sponsored by the University Program Council, this opportunity will only happen once!

IFC Snowballs on the Quad   12:00 pm – 2:00 pm

Members of the Interfraternity Council are providing snowbals by Kona Ice! They will be also be pre-registering for Formal Recruitment, and will be available to introduce themselves and their respective organizations to students who are interested in considering joining an IFC fraternity.

BCM Fruit Ninja and Food     BCM (1226 Johnston St.)       5:30 pm

BCM (Baptist Collegiate Ministry) will be offering food to snack on and lots of rounds of Fruit Ninja for your entertainment, and a chance to get to meet new friends!

BlackPRINT-Motivational Monday    Evangeline Room (Student Union) 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Come meet other new students and members of the Black Student Union (BSU) student organization along with members of the UL Lafayette chapter of the National Association on Mental Illness (NAMI) to talk about the importance of mental well-being. Mr. Jordan McKendall, MS,PLPC, from the Office of Counseling and Testing, will run a workshop teaching coping skills. We will finish the session with an activity for our students to create vision boards.

Residence Hall Floors First Meeting  Respective residence halls     7:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Each residence hall Resident Assistant will host the First Floor Meeting in the community rooms on the floor you reside on. This meeting is required for all on-campus residents to attend. At this meeting the resident assistants of the residence halls will educate residents about the policies of living on-campus, the Code of Conduct, important areas of the building, and encourage the residents to meet and interact with each other.

Snowballs at the OLW Plaza  Our Lady of Wisdom  10:00 am – 1:00 pm

Ragin’ Cajun Catholics will have snowballs on the plaza at Our Lady of Wisdom (corner of St. Mary and McKinley) to help beat some of the summer heat!

Kool down and Kick Back  Rose Garden   11:00 am - 1:00 pm

Look for members of the Student Government Association at the Rose Garden next to the Student Union, handing out cool treats and hosting fun activities!



BlackPRINT-Kick Back and Chill  Rose Garden  6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Members of BSU will have food and cool treats to help you relax after a long, hot day! Kick back, chill out, hang loose, and have fun with low-key activities and music. A kick-back party focused on having a relaxed time with close friends or have the chance to make new friends!

ResLife and the Alumni Center host a special luncheon for all new out-of-state students at the Alumni Center (corner of McKinley and St. Mary).

Let It Grow    Randolph Hall   3:00 pm – 5:30 pm

ResLife and Sustainability will be presenting on ways for you to stay green while you’re on campus. Let It Grow is a program where students can enjoy a movie, free food, and plant plants that they can bring back to the residential halls. More information to follow very soon!

Freshman First Down/The Red Run        Cajun Field Tunnel        5:30 pm

UPC and OSEL encourage our newest incoming class members to particpate in this celebration of your sucessful admittance to the Ragin Cajun family! Students will gather at the tunnel half an hour before game time. You get to emerge from the tunel together, then sprint the length of the football field to the opposite end zone! Come join us for this awesome tradition!

The University welcomes everyone to join us for the season opener as the Ragin' Cajuns take on the Lions at Cajun Field! Game time is at 6:00 pm. Let's cheer on the Cajuns to an awesome victory over the Lions! Allons-y!!!
